aHOUSEforHOME is an architecture and urbanism lab for young Ukrainian creatives, who currently find themselves far from home. In a series of workshops, participants between 13-17 years old explore the meanings of home through architecture, design, and play. In 2024, aHOUSEforHOME will take place for over 100 participants in four different cities in the Netherlands. You can read more about the project here.
Internship opportunity
As part of the aHOUSEforHOME project, Studio Kitsunya is going to develop methods to enable other organizations (e.g., schools, NGO's, community groups) who work with refugees to learn and adapt from aHOUSEforHOME's approach. For example, by developing creative workshops that high school teachers can use to talk about spatial design and migration in their classroom. Or by creating a toolkit that collects our exercises, methods and materials, and makes it easier for other NGO's to start up a similar project. We are looking for a motivated intern that is eager to participate in all the different steps of this process.
Who are you?
- A student or recent graduate in a field related to education or (spatial) design — for example: pedagogy, cultural management, social work, architecture, urbanism, design,...
- You are enthusiastic about joining a project that combines design and architecture with the topic of displacement and forced migration
- Currently residing in the Netherlands, and available for 1 or 2 days per week from January until June 2024
- You are interested (or have some experience) in the fields of architecture, urbanism or design, and/or in creating workshop concepts for teenagers
- Comfortable speaking English. Knowledge of Ukrainian or Dutch is considered a plus
What will you do?
- Get to know the aHOUSEforHOME project in an active way: by joining meetings with the project team, talking to our tutors and students, and visiting the workshops in different cities in the Netherlands
- Search for and learn about existing projects where creative approaches are used to talk about migration and displacement with teenagers
- Participate in developing creative workshop concepts on the topic of migration and displacement for high school students in Rotterdam
- Participate in developing a toolkit that will enable other organizations to set up a project like aHOUSEforHOME
What do we offer
- Guidance by a dedicated mentor, while working with a small team of experienced designers and researchers
- Flexibility to combine the internship with your study schedule, and the opportunity to alternate between working from home and working at our workspace in the center of Rotterdam
- An internship for 1–2 days per week, with a compensation between €200 and €400 / month + reimbursement of public transportation costs
How to apply
Send your CV and a short motivation letter (in English or Dutch) to Teis De Greve at hi@kitsunya.studio before December 21st.
